Let’s say your car needs a couple things fixed on it. It’s fine! So many people put off auto repair that it’s pretty abnormal for an older car or truck to be completely caught up on its maintenance. As vehicles age, things break. That’s life, and not everyone has the time or money to fix what can be expensive repairs when they first pop up – especially if they aren’t pressing.
At The Auto Shop, we’re always looking for ways to save our customers money. And that can extend well beyond our competitive prices on auto repair and maintenance services that we’ve offered in Phoenix, AZ since 1979.
Here are a couple things to try if you’re trying to ward off a needed repair if something’s failing on your vehicle. But remember, these are just band-aids – when the time comes to fix that A/C or transmission (or just about anything else that can go wrong with your vehicle) give us a call to see how we can help you!
Try SeaFoam or Techron Fuel Additives
Is your car running or idling rough? Not as much get-up-and-go as it used to have? It could be a number of things, but if you have nothing to lose these two products are solid choices to try to restore some lost performance in your engine.
By cleaning out the fuel injectors and blowing out any harmful carbon deposits, you’d be surprised at how well these can make your car run – albeit for at least a short time until any deeper problems resurface.
Be careful with “leak stopper”-type products
If your transmission feels like it’s slipping or your engine’s overheating, it may be a very serious problem. While using some kind of cheap chemical that goes directly into a pump or hose in order to stop up a leak might stop the leak for a short time, it can also quickly deteriorate the overall function.
These products should be used with caution, especially if you intend on owning the vehicle for a significant amount of time after their use.
You might still have to bite the bullet
If and when the bubble gum and duct tape that’s keeping your vehicle running fails, there are still a few options to save money on auto repair. Requesting or using used or re-manufactured parts, as well as using non-OEM replacement brands can help keep the costs from being quite as expensive as they normally would be.
And at The Auto Shop, we have dealer-level knowhow, technology and a brand new state-of-the-art auto repair shop, all below dealer prices.
